Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal!

I have had such fun participating in the bead soup blog party this spring! What a great way to work out of the winter doldrums - especially when working with beads in springy colors and styles. First, my partner Leslie sent me a mix of beads. You can see my original post about it here. It was really a challenge for me to work with what she sent because I don't work with big beads often, generally don't do stringing or wire work, and just couldn't figure out what to do with that butterfly focal. The idea of the brown leather cording came to me early on, but I had a hard time getting it to do what I wanted it to and had a hard time stringing it in a pleasing way through the holes in the butterfly. I ended up first making some beaded beads to match what she sent me and finally, after discarding other ideas, made simple peyote bails for each hole of the butterfly and strung the leather cord through that. I also embellished the bails with Russian leaves and a little rose to go with the idea of the butterfly. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and happy for the chance to push my creativity this way. You can see what Leslie made with what I sent her here.
